Jahorina Olympic Center, thanks to the snowmaking system iteslf, despite the reduced intensity of snowfall, made it possible for the ski center and ski slopes to function, very first in the region – even since December 4th. A new cabin gondola, 3 six-seater, anchor lifts and two polygons for children are provided, which accounts for more than 80 percent of the ski resort’s total capacity. The artificial snowing system is constantly in operation both during the day and during the night, the whole mountain, from Prača to Poljice, is being snowed. So far, about 120,000 m3 of snow has been produced, which is the same amount that was produced throughout last season.
Snowmaking is being done strategically and in accordance with the previously established priority plan and the necessary dynamics for maximum and better effect. Intensive work is being done and every effort is made to enable as many trails as possible for skiers, which is primarily in the interest of Jahorina Olympic Center and subsequently all other entities, visitors and skiers. The current priority for snowmaking is the Prača trail, the verticals of the Ogorjelica 2 and the Ogorjelica 3, the Novak Đoković trail and the verticals of the Poljice trail, as well as the continued snowing of critical spots on snowy trails where there is insufficient snow for various reasons (mountain passes, frequency spots, sun exposure and south wind spots. All trails (Poljice, Ogorjelica and Novak Djokovic) covered by the Technoalpin snowmaking system are in operation solely due to artificial snow.
The artificial snowmaking system consists of a water reservoir from which the necessary water for making artificial snow is drawn, and a pipeline system through which high-pressure water and air are transported to the artificial snowmaking device – snow cannons and launchers. OC Jahorina is equipped with about 150 launchers and the latest snow cannons for the production of Tehnoalpin artificial snow, whose products are represented in 70 percent of the world’s ski resorts. The artificial snowing system simulates the natural occurrence of water vapor rising into the atmosphere, where, at low temperature, water vapor particles crystallize to produce natural snow.
Launchers and cannons are commissioned in accordance with certain priorities in order to achieve maximum and best effects. To achieve the best possible effects, natural conditions are required, which include low temperatures, low humidity and calm weather without wind, which in the previous period was not fulfilled on Jahorina. OC Jahorina thanked everyone for their trust and emphasized that the situation on Jahorina is not ideal, there is a lack of snowfall as well as on all the mountains in the region, but everything possible is being done to ensure the best possible conditions. Skiers and skiing are priorities and it is urged not to question efforts made to make the ski center work as best as possible.
