Jahorina Olympic Center is a tourist destination in expansion, both in winter and in summer. Installing the longest mountain coaster in the region is currently underway on this mountain, which is sure to be the biggest summer attraction.
1. The summer season on Jahorina started with a record figures, what are your plans for the future? Do you think this summer will be the most visited so far?
We started the summer season in good manners, all our facilities were free on the first day of work on June 29, and on Saturday and Sunday alone, we made 2,000 summer rides. It sounds a little boring as we often repeat this but this is another Jahorina record. In the first 10 days of operation, we achieved a turnover of almost 7,500 KM, which is an increase of fascinating 178,50% compared to last year, the number of rides increased by 64,75% and I must say that we are especially pleased that people are increasingly seeing the benefits of Jahorina and summer and decide to spend hot summer days on the mountain. Considering that we work a lot to improve our offer and the relationship with our visitors, these parameters mean a lot to us, as this is proof that we are making the right moves that have a great impact on the field, which is really important.
The plans for the future are ambitious, and we have started building an alpine coaster, which will surely be the biggest summer attraction on the mountain. Currently, 2.5 km of contents are being assembled and the starting station will be at a large artificial lake at the top of the mountain while the base station will be at the foot of the mountain. On top we are also building a catering facility that is scheduled to be completed, as well as an alpine coaster, during the month of August. We hope to rejoice all our visitors in mid-August with new content and a spectacular concert to celebrate the grand opening .
When it comes to attendance, I think summers in the mountains have become a trend in the region, so it’s the cases with us. Since the opening of the summer season, more and more visitors are visiting us every day, and if this trend continues, and we are sure that it will, this will be the most successful summer on the Olympic Mountain. Pleasant temperatures, an oasis of greenery and fresh air pleases everyone in these hot summer months. I persistently say that Jahorina is the most beautiful and the most comfortable for a summer stay and we have provided great entertainment for all visitors with interesting facilities and a rich offer.
2.You are talking about interesting content, what is it that all visitors to Jahorina expect this summer? Has anything changed since the previous summer?
This summer, all Jahorina guests can enjoy the panoramic six-seat lift, summer sledding, biking, quads, Xraycera, hiking marked mountain trails, football, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as outdoor gym which is new content this summer. The gym is adapted for professional athletes as well as for recreational training, and is located next to the sports grounds of the Jahorina Olympic Center at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Jahorina also has paragliding flights as well as paintball, which is adapted to the fans of a bit more extreme activities. The hoteliers have prepared an excellent gastro and wellness offer. Jahorina Olympic Center has prepared promotional weekends for all categories of visitors, so parents, young people, schoolchildren and pensioners will be eligible for a discount of 15 to 60 percent this summer. One of the novelties is Jahorina’s souvenir shop, which is located on the Plateau of Poljice and offers visitors a wide selection of the most beautiful Jahorina souvenirs.
In addition to the alpine coaster whose construction we are all looking forward to on Jahorina this summer, we are shooting a series of shows “Sasvim blisko sa poznatima” where all visitors to our mountain have the opportunity to socialize with prominent figures in the world of acting, sports and music.
3. When it comes to summer events, what does Jahorina have to offer this summer?
During the summer on Jahorina manifestations of competitive and humanitarian character are indispensable, so on August 10, we will organize a humanitarian mountain trail race with obstacles whose main motive is to raise funds to help sick children. The last weekend of July is traditionally reserved for Jahorina Ultra Trail. This is BH’s largest trail running competition whose fifth, jubilee edition will be held 26-28. July 2019. Trails connecting Jahorina to Ravna planina, Romania and Trebević can run four races of different lengths: Mini, Midi, Maxi and Ultra Trail. The trails are navigated through the most beautiful parts of these mountains and connect attractions such as the ski slopes on Jahorina and the most beautiful mountain lookouts.
Then, the Bicycle Associations of Serbia and Republika Srpska jointly organize “59. International Race Through Serbia ”with the slogan“ Cycling and Tourism ”. This extremely significant race, in which more than 20 countries participate in the qualifying race for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, starts from our Jahorina. The International Race through Serbia is further proof that Jahorina is a mountain with huge potential for summer tourism, we will do our best to host all participants. We expect over 600 and hope that the start of the race on June 30th from Jahorina will be especially successful. We are also planning to organize an amateur bike race for the first time on August 31st. Jahorina Downhill is the first race of its kind on Jahorina and is a great challenge for both recreational and experienced competitors. In addition to these “big” events, we have prepared some surprises, smaller manifestations like prize games and interesting games for children.
4. Summer on Jahorina will surely be interesting, are you preparing for the next winter season? Jahorina is still investing so can you explain what this is all about?
We started our preparations for the winter season literally before the end of the last winter season. Investments of KM 30 million are ongoing and our goal is to maximize the potential of Jahorina, which is really huge, although it is a process that could take several years. The first and currently largest project is certainly the construction of the first mountain gondola on Jahorina. The realization of this project will eliminate the crowds of skiers in the winter tourist season, will unburden the central trails on the mountain and will work in extreme conditions when there are high winds and fog. The gondola will work when other installations cannot, which was one of our basic prerequisites for construction and guidance when this investment was planned. The plan is for the Gondola to have 36 cabins, one of which will be a VIP cabin that will be used for special purposes. A maximum of 10 people can be accommodated in each cabin, while the Gondola has a capacity of 2,700 skiers per hour and the planned colors are red and black. The construction of the future gondola, the route of which is about one kilometer long, will connect at the Vučiji Most and the connecting road 1 (Ogorjelica – Poljice), which will lead to greater utilization of the tourist potential of the mountain. The construction of the Gondola is scheduled to be completed by December 2019, after which the mountain will be richer for another serious winter and summer attraction. In addition to the gondola, we are also building 3,000 m of new trails that will be artificially snowed. Work is also underway to replace the old Poljice ski lift with a new “anchor” installation, which will increase skiers ’transportation capacity to 1,200 per hour from 300. We are also working on lighting the Poljice track, where lighting is provided on both sides with a volume of 50 lx, so that FIS night competitions and night skiing can be held, a special branch towards Šator settlement with lighting of 25 lx for recreational skiing. The lighting project also includes the area around the lake at the top but also the kindergarten at the foot of the mountain in Poljice. For the coming winter season we are also preparing the renovation of all gates for the passage of skiers and retail outlets, as well as the introduction of new types of Webshop sales and OPOS sales, which will reduce the crowds and waiting at the lifts and ski slopes. This is all about new projects in short, the realization of all of the above implies a lot of work and we have a difficult period ahead of us, but we are looking forward to all of this work, which will greatly enhance the stay of all guests on Jahorina and the work of all of us employed in OC Jahorina. I must mention that none of the above would have been possible without the support of the RS Government, the President, Mr. Radovan Viskovic and the Presidency Chairman, Mr. Milorad Dodik, who has given us great confidence since we came to Jahorina and is really proud of everything we do, which gives us pleasure and impetus for further work.
